World Cup '99
The Windies seem to have been going through a really bad patch
for the past few years , but their board has infused young blood into the
squad , and Lara seems o be on a comeback , showing that though not in the
reckoning , they can't be exiled. The old warhorses Ambrose and Walsh have
been going hammer and tongs at all oposition and Ambrose yet maintains an
economy rate of below four and an average of about twenty .Their new bowlers
King , Dillon & Bryan can be more than a handful as shown in the recent
series against Australia. Nemiah Perry adds the much needed spin option to
their attack , especially after the retirment of Hooper
Lara and Chanderpaul are among the best batsmen in the world and they also
have the required experience .Talking of experience they have the hard hitting
Simmons whose seam bowling would play a crucial role and the ever calm Jimmy
'p'Adams .
Ridley Jacobs provides the needed impetus to the start of the innings and
Williams is there to provide the support. Keith Arthurton had a miserable
cup in '96 and he'll be looking forward to erase those memories this year.
All in all if they can pull up their socks and lose a bit of inconsistency
by preventing against batting collapses they look to be a formidable team
indeed.
The Team is as follows
