World Cup '99
Australia has been following the policy of separate Test &
ODI teams for a while now. As a result their team is well suited for any tournament
and any conditions. They are one of the favorites and do look as if they can
take home the cup. In Shane Warne they have a match winner. Australia managed
to reach the finals in '96 thanks to his last spell of bowling where he demolished
the Windies who were cruising to victory , and though laid of with injury
he's back in good form. Among the other bowlers Glen McGrath and Reiffel are
deadly. The rest of the bowling attack is made up of all rounders who none
the less stick to their line and length.
Their batting line up and depth is impressive. Right from the openers Gilchrist
and Mark Waugh down to Adam Dale every one (except McGrath) is an aggressive
and good batsman. In Rick Ponting and Steve Waugh they have technique and durability
.
Lets not forget their star batsman -- Michael Beavan . The perfect batsman
for a one day game , he'll find himself a place in any team in the world.
Always cool and tormenting the fielding side with his quick singles and immaculately
placed boundaries. His ability to remain 'not out' has earned him an amazing
average. With such a team its difficult to see how they could lose ... but
lets wait and watch ... the Windies have defeated them recently is that a
wake up call or the ring of a doom bell ?
